CRYSFORMA

Crysforma’s activity:

Crysforma provides complete scientific support for the discovery, analysis and scale-up of polymorphs, hydrates, amorphous phases, salts and co-crystals of active pharmaceutical ingredients or intermediates.

Crysforma has developed its own crystallization screening methodology based on the combination of several crystallization procedures. We use high-throughput crystallization systems controlled by highly skilled scientists to maximize the information drawn from each experiment (read more).

Highlights 2014

  • Fundació Obra Social la Caixa has sponsored a project dedicated to the discovery and development of new co-crystals of 2 high demand APIs with solubility and bioavailability issues. The results of the project are currently being protected via patent application with the goal of licensing them to industry.
  • At the end of 2014 Crysforma received additional funding from Fundació Obra Social ‘la Caixa’ to develop new services in the area of prediction of pharmaceutical co-crystals during 2015.

CSOL’s activity:

CSOL’s mission is to act as the link between the researchers’ expertise and the industry, as well as developing the researchers’ discoveries into industrial applications with a comprehensive approach. (read more)

Highlights 2014

  • During 2014 CSOL has been working on five valorization projects aimed at further developing inventions or know-how of ICIQ groups:

o   Supported organocatalysts (Prof. Pericàs). Using Design of Experiments, CSOL has developed a reliable, reproducible, and scalable route towards anchored organocatalysts derived from proline.

o   Scale-up of a bis-salphen ligand (Prof. Kleij). Preparation of material to support a TECNIOspring project, aiming to evaluate new bimetallic species as additives in composite polymeric materials.

o   Metal-free diamination of olefins (Prof. Muñiz). CSOL has synthesized new bis-sulfonimides for their use in iodine-promoted diamination reaction, and tested the deprotection to yield the free amines.

o   Synthesis of new analogs of Englerin A (Prof. Echavarren). A novel class of Englerin A analogs has been prepared, which is being tested against renal tumor cells at the National Cancer Institute in USA.

o   Novel modular organocatalysts (Prof. Pericàs; financial support by Fundació Privada Cellex).

  • Two development projects funded by Fundació Obra Social La Caixa where conducted at CSOL laboratories:

o   Quantification of trypsine by fluorescence emission of Quantum Dots (Prof. Palomares). Studies to develop a kit or device for the early diagnosis of Cystic Fibrosis.

o   Anchoring chiral phosphoric acids to polymeric resins (Prof. Pericàs). Route optimization and scale up to allow the preparation of a libraries of chiral compounds for medicinal chemistry using continuous flow conditions.

  • Fundació Obra Social La Caixa has extended the funding for development projects for one further year, and two new projects will be carried out in 2015 at CSOL laboratories (Prof. Galán-Mascarós and Dr. Urakawa).
