Mechanical Workshop
THE UNIT IN 2014
The mechanical workshop supports the Institute research in terms of design and fabrication of mechanical components and in terms of assembling new singular ICIQ designed measurement devices or reaction setups. The mechanical workshop also helps in the repairing and improving works on commercial devices.
The workshop can work with different materials (SS, Teflon, aluminium…) and can make pieces of almost any shape, helping the research groups from the most practical to the most sophisticated point of view
In 2014, the workshop incorporated a sand blasting machine and new software to simulate the behaviour of the designed pieces under pressure or different temperature conditions.
During 2014 the mechanical workshop worked in the following new challenging projects that imply some operations never done before:
- Design of autoclaves
- Sophisticated reaction cells
- LED plates to be used in the CELLEX-ICIQ HTE laboratory
- Design of complicated shapes that need to be sintered
- Hydrogenation miniaturized plant
- High pressure autoclave repairs
- Accessories for the CELLEX-ICIQ HTE Laboratory
We must also highlight that a design from the mechanical workshop is in process of being patented.
